Brian Michael Jenkins is a senior advisor to the president at the RAND Corporation. He is past chair of the Political Science Department at RAND.

He is the author of Will Terrorists Go Nuclear? (2008, Prometheus Books) and Unconquerable Nation: Knowing Our Enemy, Strengthening Ourselves (2006, RAND Corporation). Among many others, he is the author Stray Dogs and Virtual Armies: Radicalization and Recruitment to Jihadist Terrorism in the United States Since 9/11, (2011, RAND Corporation). He is also co-editor of RAND’s 2011 study The Long Shadow of 9/11: America’s Response to Terrorism, with John Paul Godges.

Jenkins is a former paratrooper and captain in the Green Berets, and a decorated combat veteran. He has been a member of the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security, the National Commission on Terrorism, and the U.S. Comptroller General’s Advisory Board. He is the author of numerous additional studies on terrorism, and a frequent commentator in the popular media. He holds an M.A. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles.
