Ilya Somin is a Professor of Law at George Mason University. Before his 2003 appointment at George Mason, he was the John M. Olin Fellow in Law at Northwestern University and clerked for Judge Jerry E. Smith of the Fifth Circuit. He is the author of Democracy and Political Ignorance: Why Smaller Government Is Smarter, and coauthor of A Conspiracy against Obamacare: The Volokh Conspiracy and the Health Care Case. Somin is widely published in both the scholarly and popular press, including the Yale Law Journal, the Stanford Law Review, the Northwestern University Law Review, and also Reason, the LA Times, and USA Today.
Somin’s interests include democracy and political knowledge, federalism, and property rights. As a member of the Volokh Conspiracy, he is a prominent blogger.
