Bruce Bueno de Mesquita is the Julius Silver Professor of Politics at New York University. He specializes in international relations, foreign policy, and nation building. He has devoted much of his research to the forecasting of international events.

He is the director of New York University’s Alexander Hamilton Center for Political Economy and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. He also founded Selectors, LLC, a company that specializes in making forecasts on foreign policy and politics. He earned his BA degree from Queen’s College, New York in 1967 and then his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

His newest book, co-authored with Alastair Smith, is titled The Dictator’s Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is almost Always Good Politics (Public Affairs Press). It will be published in September.
